If you truly love your Labrador Retriever then think about this: Is his safety and comfort important? Through decades of training dogs I have often discussed the best way to transport dogs with their owners hundreds of times. Many times the dog owners seemingly never listen. I can’t begin to tell you how many great dogs have been injured or even killed while riding in the back of a truck unrestrained. An equally bad choice is when the dog is incorrectly tied up leading to injury or worse as well. The best way to haul a dog is in a quality dog crate that is properly secured in the truck. Furthermore, as the weather heats up, it is a good idea to go a step further by using a well-insulated and vented box with a fan. An additional and inexpensive precaution is to place a 2 liter bottle with frozen water in the crate which will also help keep dogs cool as warm weather approaches. In the winter, a little hay or bedding is nice and be sure to remember to cover the vents on the crate. It doesn’t have to be difficult to properly transport your dog. Treat your retriever with the respect he deserves for all he does and you will see why he can truly be man’s best friend.
